“…an essential new Vermont voice.” -Jordan Adams, Seven Days
Cady Ternity
Cady Ternity was formed by Sara Primo and Benjamin Burr one day in Northfield, Vermont’s January 2023 when they were so, so bored. Since then the songwriting duo has self-produced two full length LPs (their most recent, On & On Anon, being named “…one of the best Vermont records of the year,” by Jordan Adams at Seven Days) and formed a chilled-out live act (featuring drummer Griffin Crafts and bassist Zach Ward) that’s been called so much as, “trippy.”
Specializing in “…shape-shifting, pop-centric music that's hard to pin down,” Cady Ternity’s sound is tantalizing. Their work— recorded in domiciles such as ‘woodland cabin with no plumbing or space, really’ and ‘single bedroom efficiency apartment in Winooski, Vermont (where the band now calls home)’ —is unique in sonic profile and structure, often using home-cooked production techniques. A cherry on top, lead singer Primo’s voice has been compared to artists like Astrud Gilberto and Joni Mitchell.
Cady Ternity also comes in a four piece live act with Burr and Primo taking on lead and rhythm guitar/synthesizer respectively. The addition of interchanging electric and synthetic bass and the above mentioned Craft’s noteworthy jazz-leaning drum techniques transform Cady Ternity’s songs into chilled out, well polished, and exciting live arrangements rife with improvisation. Examples of this are on the band’s YouTube channel where they can be found documenting their live sound’s journey using a Tascam 488 Portastudio (restored by Burr) and occasionally vlogging.
At home Burr and Primo can be found taking it easy, playing with their cat, and meaning to but never actually hyphenating their last names.
